The Best Zucchini Recipes

Sweet, savoury, and pickled, too, this round-up of my best zucchini recipes is the inspiration you need for using up those summer squash.

I love zucchini for their versatility. Here’s a vegetable that makes both a fantastic relish for hamburgers and my kid’s favourite sweet bread.

I grill it all summer long, and when fall arrives and kids head back to school, zucchini is the base for all sorts of muffins.

Right now, summer squash and zucchini varietals are available in abundance; let’s work them into more recipes and meal plans.

20 Recipes From the Whole Foods Pantry

Even when you have a well-stocked pantry, it still can be challenging to come up with ideas for meals. Whether you are looking for vegetarian dinners, nourishing breakfasts, or even just a healthy lunch idea, these recipes will put your whole foods pantry to good use.

Sunday was my first day back home after our Christmas vacation in Quebec and I spent much of it knocking around my kitchen. My fridge was bare and there was a snowstorm raging outside, so I pulled a jar of homemade bolognese from the freezer and whipped up a pot of pasta.

There was enough space in that afternoon for meal planning, a pantry tour, and reflection on exactly WHAT I wanted to cook, serve and eat for January. I’m not one for a ‘reset’ or cleanse, diet, detox or any of those terms associated with detrimental diet culture, but I do recognize the need for a shift.

Today’s recipe is about so much more than a fantastic homemade granola formula.

How to Get Organized for Dinner: Batch Cooking

Of all the months of the year, September and October are when I buckle down and get serious about batch cooking.

Batch cooking is essentially making multiples of a dish that can be frozen and reheated. It can also mean duplicating recipes of anything from bread to condiments, but for this specific post I’m going to focus on dinners.

I can’t tell you how many times batch cooking has saved the day; it’s an absolute necessity for busy families. [Read more…]

How to Get Organized for Dinner: Part 2 – Meal Prep

We’re on a mission to simplify family dinner and today’s post is all about setting yourself up for success by meal prepping.

If you thought a meal plan was the same thing as meal prep, don’t worry, most people confuse the two life hacks, and truthfully, you need one to do the other. Your meal plan outlines meals and helps organize your grocery haul for the week, but your meal prep is the pre-processing of those groceries into ready-to-go elements for dishes throughout the week.

If you are able to put in an hour or two of meal prep after you bring the groceries in, your life will change. You’ll be two steps closer to getting a wholesome meal on the table on a busy weeknight, because you will a) already have decided what to make, and b) have prepared a portion of the meal in advance.

Read on for a clearer explanation about this gift to your future self, as well as a list of some of my favourite meal prep foods and recipes.
