Sunday was my first day back home after our Christmas vacation in Quebec and I spent much of it knocking around my kitchen. My fridge was bare and there was a snowstorm raging outside, so I pulled a jar of homemade bolognese from the freezer and whipped up a pot of pasta.

There was enough space in that afternoon for meal planning, a pantry tour, and reflection on exactly WHAT I wanted to cook, serve and eat for January. I’m not one for a ‘reset’ or cleanse, diet, detox or any of those terms associated with detrimental diet culture, but I do recognize the need for a shift.

As much as I have been full out crushing on summer, it’s been a huge relief to transition into a fall schedule with the start of school.

I’ve been sharing a peek at my meal prep efforts over on Instagram and many of you have asked about how I get organized for family dinner. September feels like a good time to revisit some of my favourite (and most popular) blogging topics such as meal planing, meal prep and batch cooking.

No one wants to be looking in the refrigerator at 5 o’clock at night, wondering what to make for dinner – again. Even food professionals like myself have to have a strategy for putting a meal on the table every night.

Hungry? Ideas for good eats from my late summer fridge

I‘m a fan of organizing the refrigerator before a long weekend or major holiday. It happens at Easter, to make room for ham and cheesecake, and before Christmas, in order to house party punch and appetizers.

It makes me feel on top of things, at least in one department! This Labor Day weekend we’re having a few friends over and I’ve pepped a few things in advance so I can spend more time visiting around my grill.
