Fall Baking Kick-Off: Win a KitchenAid Stand Mixer

Last weekend, we hosted our annual pie social and over sixty of our friends showed up on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Guests who love to bake came bearing pies of all kinds, until my table was filled with fifteen homemade creations. Some were bursting with local fruits such as blueberries, apples, pears and raspberries, as well as rhubarb. Others featured nuts like pecans or coconut, and a towering Banoffee pie held sliced bananas under a mountain of whipped cream.

We had classic pumpkin pie, too, as well as a huge pot of hot spiced apple cider to accompany the desserts. It was an afternoon to remember.

Surveying the spread, one thing was apparent: my friends are as excited for fall baking as I am.

Maybe we’re psyched about baking because we can turn the oven on without heating up the whole house, or perhaps it is because we’ve finally settled into a fall routine. My recent flurry of baking was brought on by a string of rainy, grey days that inspired pumpkin spice muffins, chewy oatmeal cookies and apple pie. You know, the classics.

Whether you are a pie maker, cookie shaper or cake baker, there’s something about this time of year that urges us to pull out the butter, spices, sugar and flour and get to work. And while a mountain of dirty dishes can’t be helped, there is one kitchen workhorse that helps make fall baking much easier: the KitchenAid stand mixer.

The KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer has a 5-qt Stainless Steel bowl with handle and 10 different speeds, which means whipping cream to stiff peaks and smashing butter and sugar into fluffy mounds is just the beginning of the mixer’s prowess. I mix up all my pie crusts with the paddle attachment (here’s the tutorial) and knead the dough for my whole wheat buttermilk dinner rolls with the dough hook.

When I prepare my Winter Fruits Pavlova, the egg whites are carefully whipped to perfection with the whisk attachment. And the After School Gingerbread Project would be a chore without the mixer to beat our Royal icing into peaks.

I hope you are feeling lucky, because my friends at KitchenAid Canada wish to gift one of my Canadian readers with their very own Artisan® Series Tilt-Head Stand Mixer!

(American readers, I do apologize that this is a Canadian exclusive, but I must remind you that my last giveaway was also a KA stand mixer, and it excluded Canadians. So it’s only fair! )

And that’s not all! Because I just launched a cookbook, because you are the best readers on the planet, we’re also giving away the KitchenAid ® Ice Cream Maker Attachment! Homemade ice cream to accompany all that pie? Yes please.

I love to use this awesome attachment for my homemade ice cream and sorbet. It makes up to 2 quarts of fresh ice cream, sorbet and other frozen desserts in 20-30 minutes. It’s super easy to clean and I love that I don’t have to store a whole other small appliance.

  1. All your recipes look fabulous Aimée! My favourite things to bake are maple-cinnamon-glazed pumpkin scones and chewy ginger cookies, although your pumpkin-spice snaps sound like they might become a new favourite!

  2. The one thing that I always end up making during the fall season is some sort of spice cake. I generally make a gingerbread cake with a dollop of real whipped cream, or something that my Mom used to make called a tomato soup cake which is essentially a spice cake…it takes a can of tomato soup instead of eggs. It’s quite amazing and a crowd pleaser for sure.

  3. Finally a contest Canadians can enter! We are excluded from most blogs and instagram contests I come across. Thank you–I would love to win this! When we lived in Germany we had a decent stand mixer (though nothing as amazing as this one). We had to sell/give everything when we moved (back, in my case) to Canada. Now I just have a 20$ hand mixer! I would love to use this for many things, like mixing dough for bread. I have never tried to make ice cream before–I am sure my kids would love it. My favourite things to bake in fall are apple crisp, cinnamon buns, and anything with butternut squash in it.

  4. My favorite thing to bake in the fall (and in every other season but especially in fall) are ginger, molasses, chocolate chip cookies. They make the house smell heavenly and are best eaten next to a lit candle with a book in hand.

    Happy Fall!

  5. I absolutely love the idea of a pie social! Its something I would love to do with friends this fall. My favourite thing to bake is probably apple crisp – which is never complete without ice cream, of course!

  6. My favorite thing to bake in the fall is a large sheet pan of fresh Plum Cake. I get very excited every year when I see the big crate at our locally owned grocery store piled high with Italian Prune plums. These are great plums because they’re small, firm and slice up nice. They are wonderfully tart after they’ve been baked which complements the white cake and streusels that layer them in this recipe. A large dallop of whipping cream, whipped up the old fashioned way, completes this dessert. It’s delicious. We love to eat these prunes fresh too while they last but nothing compares to the plum cake they make. Italian prunes have been a part of our family heritage for decades and get us excited to bake and eat every fall season.

  7. My favourite thing to make in the fall would be
Chocolate chip cookies. ( or any cookies for that matter!). I’ve only had a hand held mixer so this would make me sooo happy if I won this ?.

  8. I really enjoy following your blog and I’ve used many of your recipes to feed my family. Thank you!

  9. Ontario pears are in abundance right now. I love to bake my spiced pear and caramel galette with buttery ginger crust.
Gorgeous, local and oh so delicious!

  10. My mom got a KitchenAid mixer in the 1950’s! When I had a family, she gave it to me. Now my son owns it! I’m sorry I gave it away! For this offer, you had me at Ice Cream maker! I love reading your blogs! Thanks Aimee!

  14. Whole wheat bread for school sandwiches since it is so difficult to find a good one at the grocery store! However, baking is one of my favourite free time activities and I’m always preparing muffins, cheesecakes and banana bread with no added sugars, so that I have something delicious and healthy to snack on!

  15. Thanks for hosting such an amazing contest! My favourite things to bake in the fall are loaves – lemon poppy seed, banana, zucchini… you name it!

That is the only meat that my son likes in his sandwich; so I better make sure that I have a big batch made ahead to get me through the fall and winter!

  23. I love baking in the fall to fill the house with the smell of baked goods and to warm it up. Ginger spiced cake and apple crisp are fall favourites!

  24. I love to bake muffins — something warm to reheat and slather butter on when mornings get cold! This sure gives me inspiration to branch out to pies though…

  25. Pumpkin pie pecan pecan pie, cinnamon buns and all the cookies! Plus you have to practice a few yummy baked recipes for Christmas 🙂 I always borrow my mom’s Kitchen Aid mixer when I’m on a baking binge would love having one of my own. Don’t think I can bake without now!

  26. I just finished making winter squash purée to have enough stocked up for your wonderful Winter squash pie from your new recipe book. Last weekend I made three pies which got lots of rave reviews, with whipped cream sprinkled with a little maple flakes…Baking is my favourite thing to do.
