A holiday house tour

By this afternoon, we will be officially on holidays. Danny will have tidied his desk, picked up an excited Noah from school, and we’ll have welcomed them home with hugs and back thumps.  Two whole weeks of vacation begins!

We have snow on the ground and the Christmas cards are in the mail. Apparently a major snowstorm is on it’s way, but we have enough tourtiere and cookies in the freezer to weather the weather, whatever the weather. My refrigerator is packed with cream for eggnog, fresh apple cider for hot spiced cider and other staples as we’re hosting my sister, my brother in law, and their three dogs for the holidays and I like to be prepared!

For a little change, today’s post is a mini tour of our main floor and a few of my favorite holiday decorations. I tend to keep things very simple, and use a lot of natural elements when I decorate. I don’t like to buy a lot of things and prefer to work with what I have on hand, like my centerpiece of candles in used jam jars.

It’s rustic and homey, and suits our homestead just fine.

  • Our felt Christmas stockings are from Allenbrite Studio on Etsy.
  • I love a little natural greenery, and my wintergreen plant on the coffee table isn’t just pretty – you can brew the leaves for a healing tea.
  • Our repurposed twig tree sports gingerbread ornaments and a cardinal from the craft store, Michael’s.

This is part of The Nester’s Christmas Tour of Homes!

Do you decorate for the holidays? Is your style sentimental or modern? Rustic or chic?

  1. Thanks for sharing Aimee! I always enjoy your posts about your home : )
Every year seems to bring lots of travel around the holidays, both personal and work related so our decorations are typically limited to a small table top tree (real or fake depending on our schedule) and my favorite nativity set.

This year, my husband took some of his limited time one Saturday to put some simple Christmas lights on the front of the house for our toddler who adores them : ) So blessed. I’m thankful we keep the season as simple as possible so we can enjoy one another more. I’m thankful to Simple Living Media for helping me realize that! Merry Christmas to all of you!

  2. Our style is simple. Christmas tree and stockings pretty much cover it. 🙂

  12. Love the teal wall – very similar to our living /dining room! Your home looks gorgeous decked out for the season. (And I caught a peek of Coco too!)

  13. So pretty! I love the little sled with the natural decorations inside. I would say our decorating style definitely lends itself towards being rustic…sort of a country Christmas style, but I love it.
