Mid-Summer Update and an Announcement!

UPDATE: Thank you all SO much for the kind well wishes! I’m truly touched and appreciate all your comments. Thanks!

A funny thing happened last week. I received my favorite cooking magazine in the mail and when I flipped through it, not one thing looked good, not even the sky-high meringue pie on the cover.

Then on Monday, I was making the weekly menu plan and strangely enough, could not come up with any meals that sounded appetizing. In fact, I can’t even remember the last time I was hungry.

What’s up? Why the lack of interest in food? Well, you can probably guess – we’re pregnant!

Danny, Noah, Mateo and I are very excited to welcome a new member into the family sometime in early 2012. I’m feeling exceedingly blessed, as we’ve been hoping and praying for this gift, and the timing seems to be really right.

Of course, I’m a little terrified to be doing this all over again! However, there is plenty of time to wrap my head around this pregnancy, and still many months ahead to prepare for the arrival of a newborn.

Food blogging and Pregnancy

Shannon recently wrote about getting through morning sickness and I can totally relate. I’m craving bland, carb-heavy foods such as polenta for breakfast, toast & jam for lunch, and pasta with pesto for dinner. I’ve also been known to stir a pot of rice pudding together at 11pm,  thanks to fierce pregnancy cravings that have wasted no time kicking in to high  gear.

Hopefully, the exhaustion and the nausea will soon pass and I’ll find my motivation again. Don’t worry, I’ve still got some fantastic content planned for August, including a series on Canning, with some wonderful contributors!

Big Summer Potluck

Tomorrow I leave for New York/New Jersey for the highly-anticipated Big Summer Potluck. I’m staying with the hospitable Amber, along with Shaina, Jamie and a gaggle of other girls. It’s going to be like one big food blogger slumber party!

I’m looking forward to all that the BSP organizers have planned for us, including a series of workshops in an old renovated barn at Linden Hill Gardens.  I’ll be sure to give a full report when I return.

That’s our big news! How is your summer progressing?

  1. Wow! Congratulations Aimee! I was like you when I get pregnant with my first baby. I lost appetite on foods, and the weird thing is I hate my husband perfume smell. However all the blues ease out when I reach my third trimester. 🙂

  2. WooHoo!!!!!!! Congratulations!!!! And, much love to you, my friend 🙂

I hope you’re feeling better soon (but I’m also kinda glad you’re not feeling so great right now because of the wonderful, wonderful reason why)

    xoxo

  7. Congratulations! That’s great news. I’m a nursing mom at the moment, so when I got the same magazine, I wanted to eat half of what was inside of it.

  8. Congratulations, Aimee. I couldn’t be more happy for you. I’ll be seeing you tomorrow morning! Look for my smiling face in the arrivals lounge. I’ll be the one waiting to give you a big hug. xx

  9. congratulations! I have four children. I love my children dearly but I suffered horrible morning sickness with each one. I tried everything to make it better, to no avail. I recently watched a Video from Dr. Corrine Allen. She said morning sickness is a result of dehydration. So I would suggest, drink, drink, drink your water. Sip it gently if necessary. Have fun, enjoy your beautiful family.

  10. Congratulations Aimee and family! We also have two boys (2 and 5) and are expecting our third bambino in January. So I’m right there along with you on the morning aka all-day and all-night sickness. I’m right at the end though now so I’m finally able to crave and eat all my normal healthy food again after eating a lot of white food (pasta with butter, bread and butter, bagels and cream cheese, crossiants, potatoes)! Bleh! All the best to you for a healthy pregnancy!

  11. Congratulations, Aimée! That’s wonderful. I’ll bet the boys are super excited, too. I hope the tired/nausea passes quickly for you and you get to enjoy this time.

  12. Congrats! So funny that nothing sounded good to you. I’m not pregnant, and can’t stop eating!!

  13. Congrats you guys!!! That’s SO exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We’re gearing up to do the newborn thing the second time around pretty soon (36 weeks now). BSP sounds like way too much fun!! Looking forward to the report.

  14. Congratulations Aimee! I’m so excited for you guys! Before my little guy, I never knew “morning sickness” could be morning, noon and night sickness : ) I hope those carbs do the trick for you!
