Weekend links: Eat Well, Spend Less edition (and giveaway winner)

My summer is on a bit of crash-course, I fear. I keep seeing people blogging their summer bucket list with activities such as ‘build a hot air balloon’,’visit the zoo’, or ‘make homemade waffle cones’, and here I am doggie paddling to keep my head above the laundry, email, weeds, and the occasional canning project.

Tonight, my parents arrive for a two-week visit and I will be happily obliged to set aside some of my work load and play the part of tourist in my own town. I also fully intend to rope my mother into landscaping my front gardens, and my dad into painting a few rooms.

We have a giveaway winner!

Congratulations to Nancy who will be receiving a copy of Desserts in Jars: 50 Sweet Treats that Shine by Shaina Olmanson. In her entry she said:

“I always look forward to making my sister’s blueberry pound cake with fresh blueberries. I’m making it this weekend, in fact!”

Congratulations, Nancy! You’ve been notified via email.

Jessica totally knows How to Eat Well & Spend Less During a Staycation, even with a big family. And  no packing sounds really good.

Katie K serves up a Sprouted Lentil Salad and claims they are healthy and a great way to eat well and spend less.

Tammy has tips for a summer picnic and it all makes me want to take more meals outdoors.

Carrie’s post on eating well and spending less while entertaining guests  has me inspired for my parents visit.

And in case you missed them, here’s my round-up of grilled salads, and a recipe for a favorite summer dessert, grilled fruit salad with lime.

Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I hear ya, Aimee. I have a 10 wk. old, a 3 yr. old and a 6 yr. old. I, too, am just trying to keep my head above water! We can’t hold those on Pintrest, blogs, etc. as our standard because we can never keep up! Anyway, I’m convinced that many people just put their best foot forward online . . . no one can do amazingly cute things ALL the time! 🙂
