Bite This Book! All In Good Time (giveaway)

Welcome to a new 2012 series on Simple Bites! Each month, I’ll feature a book of my choosing (cookbooks, predominantly) that is hot off the press, host a Q & A with the author, and then give you a chance to win a copy. It’s Bite This Book and it starts today!

January is a month where it’s easy to get inspired to organize the kitchen. The weather outside is blustery and cold (at least up here it is), the holiday parties are over, and routine is reinstated in our households.

It makes sense to tackle organizing projects now – big or small – and today I have just the book to help you on your way. Written by my friends and fellow mothers, Mandi Ehman and Tara Kuczykowski, All In Good Time: When to Save, Stock Up, and Schedule Everything for Your Home is a thorough resource for busy families looking for ways to cut costs, save time, and get the home in order.

Nope, it’s not a cookbook, but All in Good Time is definitely a book that I can see being very valuable to Simple Bites readers. Read on for an interview with Mandi and a chance to win one of two copies!

Q & A with Mandi Ehman

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you are qualified to write this book.


Tara and I first became friends about 7 years ago. We were both work-at-home moms, and we actually met online through a company bulletin board. We both had baby girls (although Tara also had two little boys as well), and we discovered that we had a lot in common.

We talked pretty much every day, and it didn’t take us long to figure out that Tara’s passion and strength was saving money and finding great deals while mine was organizing and time management.

Eventually, we both started blogs related to those passions, and when the opportunity presented itself to write this book, it seemed like a great way to combine our knowledge and skills to help other people save time and money so that they’d have more of both left for the things that really matter.

2. How would you describe All In Good Time?

It is really a reference book. Much like a cookbook, we don’t expect that many readers will sit down and read the whole thing cover to cover at one time. Rather, it’s something you can flip through to discover the best time to “save, stock up and schedule everything for your home” and pull off the shelf when you want to research a specific purchase or activity.

3. Who will All In Good Time appeal to?

Although there’s helpful information in the book for pretty much anyone, I really think it is most valuable for busy moms who are trying to balance tight budgets and busy lives. Minutes and dollars really do add up, and there are simple ways to save both!

4. What is something you learned about yourself during the book writing process?

Personally, I learned that despite now carrying the title of published author, I really don’t consider myself a writer. I discovered that I love to share information with people, but writing is a means to an end and not my passion. Certainly not what I expected to learn through the experience, but something that has helped me clarify my vision for the future in invaluable ways!

  21. I could use some help with storage space….from the kitchen to the linen closet to the bedroom closets to the shelf in the laundry room. Any horizontal surface in this house becomes a depository for piles (most of which are not mine).

  23. The basement and our closets. Oh my! I’m a shop and stock-up kind of person. My husband is a save-it kind of person. We need to be get-rid-of-it-or-organize-it kind of people for a week or two.

    I have 2 kids age 4 and 6 and would love to have some time management tips. We live 25 minutes from town and have a little farm with 4 horses, 15 chickens, 4 goats, 1 rabbit, 1 cat, some barn cats, 3 dogs and fish. I have a hard time keeping up with household chores among other things and would like to spend more time with my kids instead of worrying about keeping up with the cleaning. Our home is also quite small, 1120 sf. so any toy organization tips would be much appreciated too! Thanks!
